PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- A well-known political analyst, Kem Ley, and Yaing Sang Koma, president of the Center for Study and Development in Agriculture, are creating a diverse set of independent political parties.
The two plan to create local political parties in 200 communes out of 1,633 communes across the country in 2015.
Ley said that his working groups plan to create local parties in 27 communes in Kampong Speu, Tbong Khnom, Kampot, Battambong and Prey Veng province for first quarter of 2015, and in 200 communes for whole 2015.
Local political parties are expected to be created in 1,000 communes in 2016. Meanwhile, he plans to register the parties at the communal, district and provincial levels.
Ley, also social researcher, said in principle his groups will create local parties in a total of 1,633 by the end of 2017, the year when the country will hold commune election.
