PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Mrs. Lak Sopheap, a member of board committee of opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, accused the leadership of the party of being involved with multi-million dollar corruption. However, the party spokesman denied the allegation, saying that it is not 'true'.
The corruption scandal leaked after CNRP's leaders Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha who are currently abroad to solve out internal dispute between their supporters in France.
Speaking Saturday in a meeting, Sopheap said she was not feared to reveal the truth inside CNRP, and she was not afraid of being sacked.
"As I have been a politician for 20 years, I never demand power from any individuals or leaders," she told the meeting.
"Kem Sokha talked on December 5 in a BoD ( board of directors) meeting about the corruption of between $30 to $40 million dollars," she said.
"I would not join a group that has corrupt leaders."
Yem Ponharith, a spokesman for CNRP, said that what Mrs. Lak Sopheak had said was not 'true', asking her to present documents and evidence.
"The party [CNRP] would invite her for questions over this issue because the party had already questioned her once over what she said," he added.
