Domino’s Pizza Coming to Cambodia

BY  | NOVEMBER 14, 2014
Cambodia’s fast-food sector looks set to be served another slice of America as global chain Domino’s Pizza is set to enter the market next year, Thai media reported Thursday.
Steven Pizziol, vice president for the Asia-Pacific region of Domino’s Pizza International, told The Nation that following the company’s success in Thailand, Domino’s is looking to rapidly expand its footprint in Asia-Pacific, a plan that includes entering Cambodia next year.
“We’re pleased that Domino’s Pizza is growing so quickly in Thailand…and we look forward to working with Evolution Capital, our master franchisee in Thailand and Cambodia, to develop the leading global pizza delivery system in this vibrant market,” Mr. Pizziol was quoted as saying.
Contacted Thursday, Sanjay Singh, CEO of Thai-listed company Evolution Capital, which also holds the franchise license for The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Cambodia, said he could not confirm when Domino’s would be coming to Cambodia.

“We will be scheduling a press conference shortly but at the moment we can’t make a disclosure publicly,” Mr. Singh said via telephone.
Domino’s entry would add to a growing list of major Western brands that have entered the country in recent years, such as Costa Coffee and Dairy Queen—both introduced to Cambodia by RMA Cambodia—and more recently Burger King.
Rami Sharaf, CEO of RMA, said he was aware of Domino’s planned entry to Phnom Penh and that the flagship store is currently under construction in Boeng Keng Kang I.
The rapid growth of the franchisee market for global brands is an indication of an emerging middle class, Mr. Sharaf said, adding that fast food has quickly caught on in the country despite many dismissing the idea of a pizza franchise in 2005.
“When RMA decided to be the franchisee of The Pizza Company, everyone said: ‘What are these crazy people doing bringing pizza to people used to eating rice.’ But then it becomes a trend and now we have people queuing out the door.”
