PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Leader of US-based Khmer People Power Movement, refused to appear in the Phnom Penh court on July 9, saying that he doesn't believe in the justice system of Cambodia.
But, Sourn Sere Ratha, who is currently living in the United States, said that he would ask his defense lawyer to witness the hearing.
Phnom Penh deputy prosecutor Meas Chanpiseth summoned Sourn Serey Rath last month to appear in the Phnom Penh Municipal Court over incitement charge.
"I cannot appear in the court on July 9 because the court is not independent, and is influenced by politicians," he said on Friday, adding that the defense lawyer will appear on his behalf.
Ratha also said that he has sent letters to the US embassy, and other foreign embassies in Phnom Penh, asking them to witness the hearing.

លោក សេរីរដ្ឋា ជាប្រធានចលនាអំណាចពលរដ្ឋខ្មែរ ដែលប្រឆាំងរដ្ឋាភិបាលកម្ពុជា កំពុងរស់នៅសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិក និងលោក សុខ សំអឿន មេធាវីរបស់គាត់បានប្រាប់ភ្នំពេញប៉ុស្តិ៍ថា ករណីដែលនឹងបើកសវនាការនេះ គឺទាក់ទងនឹង «ការចែកខិត្តប័ណ្ណ និងផ្កា» កាលពីឆ្នាំមុន។
នៅខែសីហា ២០១៣ យុវជនបួននាក់ត្រូវបានឃាត់ខ្លួនមួយរយៈនិងដោះលែងវិញ ដោយចោទប្រកាន់ថាបានចែកចាយខិត្តប័ណ្ណរាប់រយសន្លឹក ដើម្បីឲ្យយោធាធ្វើរដ្ឋប្រហារទម្លាក់រដ្ឋាភិបាល ដែលទង្វើនេះត្រូវបានអាជ្ញាធរចោទថាជាការញុះញង់ពីលោកសេរីរដ្ឋា។
