PHNOM PENH ( The Cambodia Herald)-The Arbitration Council says the Ministry of Labor has knighted an Australian industrial commissioner for his long period of work as an honorary advisor to the council. In a statement posted on its website Friday, the council said Labour and Vocational Training Minister Ith Samheng awarded Commissioner Michael Gay of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission as a Knight of the Royal Order of Sahametrei. "The Minister thanked the Commissioner for his close involvement in technical cooperation and exchanges with Cambodia's industrial parties over many years. "Commissioner Gay has also welcomed many Cambodian Arbitrators, the Council's legal staff and Ministry officials at the Australian Commission," the statement said. It added that Gay was in Cambodia as a member of a World Bank strategy group consulting parties over the future financial sustainability of the council. Gay said he "valued his many Cambodian friendships across the industrial parties and with them shared a desire to ensure the integrity and financial security of the Arbitration Council," the statement said.
