Sam Rainsy: Negotiation achieves 80 percent

Give our kids a better deal

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – The opposition leader said that the meeting between him and Prime Minister Hun Sen has achieved 80 percent of the issues.

The opposition leader added that we will continue solving the remaining 20% of the issues soon.
Speaking at a news conference held Thursday, Sam Rainsy, President of Cambodia National Rescue Party, also said that Hun Sen agreed to make the National Election Committee become independent institution during their phone talk on Wednesday.

“I did not regret over what I talked with Hun Sen,” he told the news conference. “We talked for interest and development of the country and for national unification.”

“What I said with Hun Sen was not agreement, but it was only a talk.”

Prime Minister Hun Sen said that he and Sam Rainsy agreed to choose the Sunday of the third week of February in 2017 and 2018 for the commune and general elections respectively during the phone talks. However, Sam Rainsy later on said that Kem Sokha, the deputy president of the Cambodia National Rescue Party did not agree.

Kem Sokha, who is currently abroad, said that the election shall not be waited until 2018 and it shall be held sooner.
