CNRP’s first election campaign targets Kandal province

Give our kids a better deal
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party will commence its campaign for municipal, provincial, city and district council election in Koh Thom district of Kandal province on May 2, according to its spokesman on Thursday.

Yem Punharith said that the campaign in Kandal province in the morning and in capital in the afternoon would be led by Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha.

"The Cambodia National Rescue Party would propagandize at the launch of council election on May 2,” he said, adding that propaganda would not be protests.

Early this week, the National Election Committee asked all five political parties eligible for upcoming election scheduled for May 18 not to allow election campaign to be transferred into protests.

The council election campaign will start from 2-16 May. There will be 3,324 positions up for grabs in election scheduled for May 18.

Phnom Penh City Hall so far hasn’t yet made response to request of The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) seeking permission to hold campaign at Freedom Park or park in front of Wat Butom pagoda.

Phnom Penh City Hall has already received request letter from Cambodia National Rescue Party, and the City Hall would answer over the request in 24 hours, said Long Dimanche, spokesman for the City Hall.

Long Dimanche, however, admitted that it is difficult for the opposition to be granted permission to hold campaign at the Freedom Park where authorities still don’t allow rallies.
