PHNOM PENH- 9th Feb 2014 (The Cambodia Herald) -- When over a million of Cambodians have Facebook accounts, there is a young girl who has drawn the most attention in Cambodia for her active postings and critical points of view against the government led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, one of the longest Asian leaders.
She is Miss Thy Sovantha, a 19-year girl who has no political blood but comes from a business family.
Miss Thy Sovantha, well known for the Facebook page- I Love Cambodia Hot News which was administered by her and three or four other people, before she has her own Facebook page “ Thy Sovantha”.
She has been outspokenly attacking the Government and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party during election campaigns, by raising debate on hot issues such as land disputes and unfavorable conditions of garment and footwear workers.
She claimed herself as a strong supporter of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party led by Sam Rainsy, a Cambodian-French politician.
Thy Sovantha was very active during the election campaign to support the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). Because of her vibrant activities in favour of CNRP, the Cambodian people and CNRP’s supporters assumed that she was a daughter of Kem Sokha, the CNRP Deputy President.
As a mater of fact, she is a daughter of businesspersons. Her popularity has become wider after her pictures have been published in a number of media.
She currently has over 200, 000 fans in Facebook, transforming herself as one of the most popular Facebook users in Cambodia where over one millions of the 15 million population have Facebook accounts.
Up to date, Thy Sovantha is 19 years old. Her native hometown is Suong downtown, Thbong Khmom district, Kampong Cham Province. She study 11 grade at a private school. She is the oldest daughter among her 3 siblings. Her family moved to Phnom Penh since 2003. Her parents-the former gold smith, are now merchants in Phnom Penh.
Thy Sovantha said that her Facebook account had been logged up since 2011, with a nickname of I Love Cambodia Hot News. Due to differences among group members, she decided to use her own account, which is self-named as “Thy Sovantha”. Her initial interest of Facebook was to share the uploaded pictures and video clips which reflected what had been happening in the society.
She claimed that she decided on spreading news, photos and videos in Facebook
because she noticed seeing that certain media, such as TVs, newspapers, and radio stations fail to cover and report real facts of our society.
She added what encouraged her to get involved with the opposition Party, especially in the election campaign in 20013, and protests, was due to a number of irregularities she had encountered. She also gets involved in humanitarian assistance through supports from local and overseas donors. She was seen distributing equipment, money to the poor and needed people as well as protesters.

Khmer peoples & authority, needed to sue thy sovanntha for creating problems, chaos to Khmer society for daily life living in Cambodia
authority has enough evidences to prosecutes her & put her in trial to face justice in PHN,,

It is wrong to accuse Thy Sovantha as CPP's spy. There was no evidence.
However, it is wise to be cautious with her. She will face her own challenge, "Power corrupts." Now that she has this popularity power, she is under the spell of such power.
One can only hope she stays true to the cause of the people.

P.S. I like to see 3 things:
1. The poor people not being kicked out of the land and their houses. A land reform must be put in place to make sure everyone has land and home.
2. Forest to be preserved. I love nature.
3. More jobs for the poors.
At this moment, I observe a lot of Khmers who are into Khmer empire this, empire that. They supports Rainsy even Rainsy are provoking incitements against the business causing job loss. They do not care about the other poors who still do not have factory jobs yet. Some are selling their daughters into slavery and prostitution. Again, these Khmer do not care. They view reclaiming Khmer Krom is more important than preventing daughters being sold into slavery and prostitution.
Well, of course, those were not their daughters, so they do not care. That's how it is.
I wish Mr. Hun Sen to use extreme force to protect the factories so that more jobs can come into Cambodia. I do not want to read more news about poor Cambodian parents selling daughters into slavery and prostitution. I want to see those girls to work at the garment factories.
