PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Opposition leader will return home today after a two-week visit to Europe and South Korea to mobilize support for the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party.
“I will be back to Cambodia tomorrow [Monday] evening via Korean Airlines from Seoul to Phnom Penh,” said Sam Rainsy, President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), in his Facebook page on Sunday.
On Sunday, Rainsy met with Cambodian workers in South Korea. He claimed that the meeting with the Cambodian workers was successful.
Rainsy, a Cambodian-French politician, left Cambodia on January 23, to mobilize the support of the international community and the Cambodian people who live or work abroad as the opposition is demanding a new election, denying the result of the last July election which handed the victory to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The international community repeatedly urged the ruling Cambodian People’s Party led by Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Cambodia National Rescue Party to return to negotiation as the political deadlock continues.
