CPP, CNRP negotiation at risk as Sam Rainsy warns over disturbance

Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha hold a press conference after they were disrupted by CPP supporters and police from holding a meeting with supporters on 19/2/14.

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Negotiation between the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) is at risk as Sam Rainsy, the CNRP President, warned to halt the negotiation if disturbance and threats by authorities continue

The warn was made ahead of his departure with his deputy Kem Sokha and other officials to meet with supporters in Kampong Chhnang province, and after recent disturbance on CNRP rallies.

Speaking at a news conference, Sam Rainsy said he would stop negotiating temporarily with CPP if it deploys its supporters to disturb the public forum of CNRP in Kampong Chhnang this afternoon.

Rainsy also accused the CPP of being unfaithful and having no willingness to negotiate with CNRP to break the country’s political stalemate.

Kem Sokha, deputy president of the party, said the CNRP cannot hold any negotiation in such threat and violent situations.

On Tuesday, CPP, and CNRP agreed to set up joint committee for election reforms in the future after a meeting between their working groups at the Senate.

A CPP source said the CNRP just wanted to find an excuse to lay the blame on the CPP. “ CPP always wishes to solve the election issues based on peaceful means,” the source added. - See more at: http://www.thecambodiaherald.com/cambodia/detail/1?page=11&token=ODc5ZGEwMGQ5N2Q#sthash.SmuHgoZ1.dpuf
