Opposition leader Sam Rainsy is leading the mass protest for second day to present petition with over two million of thumbrprints to US, British and French embassies in Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) continued its second day of protests Thursday by marching along the streets of Phnom Penh to present petitions to the different foreign embassies in the city.
Thousands of protestors led by Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha walked along the streets of #61, #47 and #76 aiming to present petitions along with over two million thumbprints to the US, French and British embassies.
At least ten police-officers were seen walking in front of the march, while thousands of other officers were deployed to safeguard security and ease the traffic where the protestors crossed
Yesterday, the opposition had successfully presented petitions and thumbprints to the UN High Commission for Human Rights in Cambodia, and will continue to give petitions to other countries of the Paris Peace Agreement.
The CNRP began its three-day protest on October 23, on the 22nd anniversary of the Paris Peace Agreement.
They demand the government to fully implement and respect the Paris Peace Agreement.
The CNRP also demands the establishment of an independent committee to probe into the election, in which the party and non-government organizations believed had to many serious irregularities.
Sam Rainsy had just returned from campaigning in the US and Europe to raise awareness regarding the election issues in Cambodia and called for foreign intervention .
CNRP’s first day mass protest was held smoothly without any violence.
