Prime Minister Hun Sen presides over the first meeting of cabinet

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prime Minister Hun Sen has warned government officials and their family members not to let their wives or members of their family utilize any aspect of the ministries.

He warned officials whose wives and family members had used their husband's position in government to use the ministries services or staff for their own personal benefit.

He ordered all officials to eliminate this culture of having their wives utilize the services of the ministries and state institutions.

Speaking in the first meeting of cabinet, he said those officials have to be held responsible before the Prime Minister and the National Assembly over their irregular activities.

"Officials have to hold public forums with citizens in all locales to reflect the issues within society," he said, adding that we have accepted when non-government organizations hold public forums.

Hun Sen, who has won another five-year term as Prime Minister for the fifth mandate after a confidence vote yesterday, also raised the issue regarding the availability of ministers to address any issues or concerns, to convene in the National Assembly when the National Assembly calls on them.

“I told Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha that opposition can summon ministers at any time to address issues in the National Assembly in this legislature,” he said in the meeting. "The National Assembly also has the right to summon me."

He added, in the last legislature the Prime Minister had protected them, but in this mandate all ministers have to be held accountable for actions before the Prime Minister and the National Assembly.
