90, 000 civil servants benefit from the increase of salaries
Phnom Penh (The Cambodia Herald)- The Cambodian government announced that it would increase the salaries of low-ranking civil servants to 320,000 Riel ($80) per month.

The statement was issued by Prime Minister Hun Sen Tuesday.

He said, 90,000 civil servants will benefit from the increase which will start in September.

Recently the Ministry of Social Affairs said minimum wage for workers will be also increased by 2014.

Currently around 600,000 footwear and garment workers receive a minimum wage of $80 per month.

Cambodia decided to increase the salaries of the civil servants and workers after the country held the general election last month in which the unofficial result shows that the Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 and the Cambodia National Rescue Party led by Sam Rainsy won 55 in the 123-seat National Assembly.

I think it's a bit too little too late. This should have been done many years ago. Hun Sen is using any and all tactics possible to win people over.
