Press Release: Concerns about protest against deputy opposition leader Kem Sokha

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 6, 2013
TO:  ALL MEDIA AND CAMBODIAN PUBLIC AT LARGE
From: Office of the Secretariat
Cambodia National Rescue Party of North America (CNRP-NA)
Re:  Safety concern of HE Kem Sokha, Vice President and Acting President of CNRP
With grave concern, we wish to inform the international community, public media, and CNRP supporters at large that a well-coordinated mass protest, 20,000 strongly backed by the government of Cambodia pose a potential life-threatening risk to Mr. Kem Sokha, Acting leader of the Cambodia National Rescue Party in Cambodia.  While the demonstration designed to personally intimidates Mr. Kem, acting leader of the opposition, there are questionable elements within the protestors groups that need to be taken notice for their violent past, including the body guards Unit of the Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Past experience indicated that when the current Cambodia government get itself involved with orchestrating protest it has been implicated in tragic violence such as the burning down of Thai Embassy and especially the infamous grenade attackagainst HE Sam Rainsy and his supporters.
We are seeking international supports and our United States government in particular to be vigilant and help ensure safety and security of the acting opposition leader, Mr. Kem Sokha.
On behalf of the leadership and the party, H.E. Sam Rainsy and H.E. Kem Sokha, please accept our deepest gratitude for your continued supports and understanding of our democratic struggles.
Truly Yours,
Pretty Ma, General Secretary
Cambodia National Rescued Party of North America (CNRP-NA)
