PHNOM PENH, 24 June 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prime Minister
Hun Sen on Monday appealed to authorities and the police to help
maintain the safety and security of the country and its people to make
sure next month's election will be conducted without political violence.
He
said he will not appear in any election campaign starting from this
Thursday to July 26, and this will be the last time he makes a public
statement.
“We will hold a general election in 34 days, so we
have to ensure a free and fair election without violence," he said at
inauguration ceremony in Kampong Cham, asking his party members to be
patient and avoid any sort of violence.
“If any propaganda made
by the opposition party affects the Cambodian People’s Party, we will
have to file a complaint with the National Election Committee," he said,
adding that if it's a more serious matter, we will file a complaint
with the court.
Hun Sen also appealed to the citizens of Cambodia
to not play loud megaphones that are intended to interrupt the
campaigns of other political parties when they meet their supporters in
their areas.
He meanwhile said today that, supporters of the
opposition party in Phnom Penh, Kampot, Siem Reap and Kampong Cham have
joined the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and more members in Kandal
province will also join the CPP tomorrow.
In this case, he asked
the opposition party not to condemn the supports who have left their
party to join the CPP because it’s the political right of every
individual.
