PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) -- The Khmer Rouge
tribunal said Wednesday that Australia had pledged another $A3.25
million to the international side of the Extraordinary Chambers in the
Courts of Cambodia.
"The ECCC hearings play a vital role in
delivering justice for the Cambodian people, who endured unspeakable
suffering at the hands of the Khmer Rouge," Foreign Minister Bob Carr
was quoted as saying.
A statement said Carr announced the new
pledge on Tuesday and that Australia’s total financial assistance to the
tribunal would reach AU$ 23 million. "Having supported the court since
its inception, Australia is the second largest international donor to
the ECCC," it said.
