PHNOM PENH, 25th May 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prince Sisowath Thomoco (pictured), Queen
Mother’s personal secretary, has sent documents containing his asset
information on Saturday to the Anti-Corruption Unit.
He decided to announce his assets after the Anti-Corruption Unit sent a warning letter to him on Monday of this week warning him that he would face a lawsuit and even imprisonment if he didn’t send the required asset information.
Thomico, who had joined a newly-formed National Rescue Party (NRP), a merger between Sam Rainsy and Human Rights parties, at first strongly refused to declare his assets, claiming that the institution of the royal family is independent from the government.
However, Om Yingtieng, President of the Anti-Corruption Unit, said earlier this week that 148 officials in the Royal Palace have announced their assets already.
