PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) --​ The National Election Committee (NEC) held a lottery drawing Thursday to determine the order in which each registered political party will be placed on the ballot for the general election on July 28.

These are the official results:
Khmer National Party (1st), Funcinpec Party (2nd), Khmer Republican Party (3rd), Cambodian People’s Party (4th), Khmer Economic Improvement Party (5th), Khmer Anti-Poverty Party (6th), National Rescue Party (7th) and League for Democracy Party (8th).

After the drawing, officials from political parties expressed their hopes and various points of views on the placement their party had recieved.

Soum Souen, member of the CPP’s Central Committee, expressed pleasure when his party came in at number four.

"Four is the number of success," he told reporters, adding that the Cambodian People’s Party also was placed in the number four spot in the 2008 fourth legislative election.

Yem Punhearith, officials from the National Rescue Party (NRP), a merger between Sam Rainsy and Human Rights Party, also expressed joy in the number their party was placed in.

"Seven is a very good number because the National Rescue Party held its first assembly on April 7th," he said, adding that the party also had seven procedures to abide by.

Sao Rany, deputy secretary-general for the Royalist Funcinpec Party, said the number two was what his party was hoping to get.

"Two reflects what the late King Father has done to demand Preah Vihear Temple from Thailand in 1962, and that the number two was a very good number for the Funcinpec Party," he said.

Im Suosdey, Chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC), said, that the order in which the political parties were place in is very important because it helps the parties in their election campaigns and also help voters distinguish each party seperately so they will know who to vote for.

Cambodia will conduct its fifth legislative general election on July 28 and the election involving 9.6 million registered voters will cost around $20 million.

In the general election in 2008, only four political parties won seats in parliament: the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (90), the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (26), the Human Rights Party (3) and both the Royalist Funcinpec and Norodom Ranariddh parties had won two seats each.
