PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prince Sisowath Thomico  recently became a member of the opposition's, National Rescue Party.

During the Party's first congress on Sunday, Norodom Sihanouk’s former personal assistant said, he was not the only prince to have joined the opposition party, but many royals from both the Norodom and Sisowath bloodlines, whom the prince could not name, has also joined.

Prince Sisowath Thomico had been recently appointed as a member of the National Council for the party.

He said, the decision not to join the Funcinpec Party, now presided over by Princess Norodom Arun Rasmey, was because he could not express himself and it opposes the government's ideals.

"There are too many injustices in Cambodian society nowadays. They don’t provide peace for  national development and they don’t provide peace to it's citizens," he said.

"As I'm also a prince, I have the right to express my point of view over peace and justice for the Cambodian people."

The prince added that he will discuss with opposition party leaders about the elections because he could also be a legislative candidate for any province for the up-coming National Election on July 28th.

However, he doesn't know which province his name will be placed in.
