Nhiek Bun Chhay, Prince leaving has no effect [If there is no effect why then Funcinpec has to summon his relatives to meet its president?]

Prince Sisowath Thomico, now a member of National Council for National Rescue Party

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Nhiek Bun Chhay, Funcinpec's secretary general, said Prince Sisowath Thomico's departure to join the National Rescue Party does not influence the popularity of the party for the up-coming national election.

Nhiek Bun Chhay said, the prince had joined the opposition party because he had failed time and time again to be president of the Funcinpec party, or gain the position of secretary general.

"I think that there will not be any change in influence from the Prince leaving and joining the opposition party," he said.

"Five times the prince has gone back and forth between the Funcinpec and the opposition parties.

"He doesn't have any influence on the party and is not that popular across the nation because there are not that many people who know of the Prince."

The relatives of Prince Sisowath Thomico, from 4 different provinces, including his personal secretary, will meet Princess Norodom Arun Rasmey and the leaders of Funcinpec party on Tuesday evening, aiming to confirm that they will not be following the prince and joining the opposition party, Nhiek Bun Chhay added.

Prince Sisowath Thomico recently became a member of the National Council for the National Rescue Party, and during the Party's first congress on Sunday, he said, the decision not to join the Funcinpec Party was because he could not express his views and it also opposes the government's ideals.

"There are too many injustices in Cambodian society nowadays. They don’t provide peace for national development and they don’t provide peace to it's citizens," he said
