PHNOM PENH, 19th April 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) -- Phnom Penh City Hall asked for a
meeting with the opposition party’s representatives over their plans for
next week’s protest on the election process.
Long Dimanche, Phnom Penh City Hall spokesman, told the Cambodia Express News (CEN), an affiliate of The Cambodia Herald, Friday that city hall has set a meeting on Monday of next week with representatives from the National Rescue Party (NRP), after receiving a letter from the party asking to hold a protest demonstration at Democratic Park.
"We will hold a meeting with the representatives of the National Rescue Party to get clear information to see how large the protest will be, how many participants will join and which roads they will parade in, to avoid traffic congestion," he said.
The meeting called by Phnom Penh City Hall was made after the NRP announced Thursday that it will hold a non-violent protest demonstration on April 24th to demand the National Election Committee (NEC) accept recommendations of the U.N. special reporteur, national and international organizations to make the upcoming election a more free and fair process.
