Prime Minister Hun Sen, government officials and businessmen return from a five-day official visit to China
PHNOM PENH(The Cambodia Herald) -- Chinese leaders
are hopeful that the Cambodian People’s Party will win in the upcoming
July elections, Commerce Minister, Cham Prasidh said.
The comment was based on the meeting in which Prime Minister, Hun Sen met with Chinese President, Xi Jinping and Premier, Li Keqiang in Beijing during his a five-day official visit to China.
Cham Prasidh told reporters at the Phnom Penh International Airport Wednesday, after returning from China with the Cambodia's government delegation, that the Chinese Prime Minister and President pledged $48 million in grants and aids and $500 million in loans to Cambodia during the meeting with Hun Sen.
The loans from China will be utilized to construct roads, bridges and infrastructure.
China also promised to encourage its investors to seek business opportunities in Cambodia and also its tourists to come visit the country.
He said, the two countries agreed to establish an Inter-Governmental Coordination Commission led by Cambodian Foreign Minister, Hor Namhong and a former Chinese Foreign Minister to strengthen relations between China and Cambodia.
After the meeting, Hun Sen and Chinese leaders issued joint statements to mark this year as the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China, calling it the "China-Cambodia Friendship Year."
Cham Prasidh said, one of the eight signed documents was the Memorandum of Understanding on a five million ton Oil Refinery project with China development Bank, China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation of China's Perfect Machinery Industry Corp. and Cambodian Petro-Chemical Company worth $1.67 billion.
He said, the petroleum refinery plant will be constructed along National Road three, south of Bokor mountain in the province of Kampot.

If a family borrows money from a bank, and it cannot repay, the bank will go take the house and kick out the family. Likewise, a country that borrows money from another country and it could never repay, the other country will come and take some islands or provinces from you. If you are big and powerful like the USA, China can't touch you , but you're a tiny nation, what can you do? They will rape you if you refuse to pay.

Let's focus a little on this loan - $500M to build roads, bridges and infrastructure. How in hell is Hun Sen and his govt going to repay this loan, when the country has no revenue gathering facility such as taxation from such assets. Also, look at how this loan is going to be disbursed. Who will be the core resources to be used to build such assets - I bet you the bulk shall be the second grade Chinese engineers or workers who cannot get jobs in China.There is no thinking about fostering and developing such skills in Cambodia nowadays.Those universities in Cambodia are taught by unemployed people from overseas countries, whose so called graduates in Bach. Masters etc. are so inexperienced and only looking for govt jobs.We have problems - big ones among other - unless WE CAN GET RID OF THE CPP ONCE AND FOR ALL.

We want to see Cambodia and people prosper that's why we want Hun Sen to stop his corruption, clean up official corruption, collect all taxes and revenues from illegal logging so Cambodia will have enough money to survive on its own, no need to borrow. If Hun Sen still continue to borrow irresponsibly and still commit corruption, he will put Cambodia into more debt and Cambodia and the Cambodian people will be indebted for generations and poor for generations. Don't see our critiques as wanting to make people suffer, it fact it is the opposite because we criticize to correct Hun Sen's wrongs.

It is the other way around - meaning America owed Thailand $30.1 billion and America owed England $230.7 billion, owed Singapore $35.2 billion, owed India $32.9 billion, owed South Korea $42. billion.
