PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Beehive radio owner Mam Sonando was
released Friday morning following the verdict by the appeal's court.
Hundreds of supporters, mainly from Democrats Association, human rights activists, non-government officials and lawmakers from opposition parties were seen lined in front of Prey Sar Prison to welcome his release, he had been detained for eight months.
As scheduled, Sonando will hold a news conference at his house in Kandal’s Kien Svay district to talk about his ordeals in the prison.
He will also talk to reporters about the false allegations for his involvement in the secession movement in Kratie’s Chhloung district.
Mam Sonando, 72, had received a reduced sentenced by court of appeals on Thursday from 20 years to five years imprisonment.
But the court only let him serve eight months of his sentence and suspended the rest.
Sonando, who was named as prisoner of conscious by Amnesty International, was arrested in July 15, 2012, several days after returning from abroad.
Two other followers from the Chhloung district who were charged in the same case were also released this morning after being detained for ten months in the prison.

Awsome news !!!
ONLY when heavy pressure from foreign countries & domestic that the CPP controlled court decided it's too costly to put this Khmer's hero in prison. Thank you EU, America, others and domestic NGO. Youn know now that there still justice in this modern day.
Mr Mam Sonando who is the leader of Democratic Association came from abroad to
fight the accusation in Cambodia court - He won the case and is labeled as one of
the KHMER HOEROES .
The two farmers who pulled the Khmer-Yuon border marker out from their farmland
with Mr Sam Rainsi went to jail - They have been called HEROES too.
Mr Sam Rainsi who did not stay to fight with the two farmers has called himself a
HEROE too - not a coward .
Hun Sen who file the lawsuit against Sam Rainsi & built several casinos at the border has labeled by CPP a HEROE too - not a coward .
- Mr Sam Rainsi called Mr Hun Sen a coward for not letting the former to compete fairly
in the July election .
- Mr Hun Sen called Sam Rainsi a coward too for the later letting the farmers to fight
the charge alone .
I totally agree that Mr Sonando is a Khmer HEROE .
