Hun Sen says all villages to have electricity by 2020 [Only 7 years to go, this is a lie]

Give our kids a better deal
Prime Minister Hun Sen speaks at an economic forum

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prime Minister Hun Sen said Wednesday that all Cambodian villages would have electricity by 2020 while 70 percent of households would have power by 2030.

"Energy sector development is making good progress which reflects government efforts to promote the private sector but much remains to be done," he told an economic forum.

Hun Sen said average per capita consumption of electricity rose at an annual rate of seven percent over the past five years. Major challenges include boosting generation while improving transmission and revenue collection, he said.

The prime minister noted that only 11.5 percent of rural households had electricity in 2009 with most using generators, batteries and kerosene lamps.

"The government has adopted a five-year action plan to expand transmission to achieve stable electricity supplies for all by 2030," Hun Sen said.

"All villages will have electricity supplied by nine hydropower and coal power plants in 2020 and 70 percent of households will have electricity by 2030."
