China: Main Investor in Cambodia

http://www.plenglish.com

Phnom Penh, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) China is the main investor in Cambodia over the last 18 years, investing a figure equivalent to more than nine billion USD, an amount that must double due to the new projects planned by China.
A government report said that South Korea, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Vietnam and Thailand invested amounts that range from one to four billion USD between 1994 and 2012.

Still, China will remain as the most important investor in the cooperation sector in Cambodia, given the construction of 400 kilometers of railroad, an iron and steel plant and a harbor, for an amount equivalent to 11 billion USD.

Those will be the greatest investments ever in Cambodian history, noted the Post newspaper in late 2012 when ChinaâÖs ambitious plan was revealed.

Cambodia needs to prepare for the future exploitation of hydrocarbon resources under the waters the country shares with Thailand.

Other Chinese investments are directed toward textile production, banking and finance, real estate, tourism and agriculture.
