PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Cambodian authorities may release
detained Russian property tycoon Sergei Polonsky as early as Friday
following his arraignment on Thursday, Voice of Russia reported.
The report quoted an unidentified source linked to the case as saying that Polonsky "proved to be cooperative, which may convince the judge to release him from jail."
Military police detained Polonsky, Konstantin Baglai and Alexander Karachinsky in Sihanoukville in December amid allegations that the trio threatened six Cambodian boatmen at knifepoint and then forced them to jump into the sea.
Voice of Russia said earlier that the Russian foreign ministry was ready to provide Polonsky with medical help.
"Sergei Polonsky requires professional medical help. We will bend every effort to give medical care to the Russian businessman," a ministry source reportedly said.
