PHNOM PENH, 4 January 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) - More than 7,000 members of the
opposition Sam Rainsy and Human Rights parties have recently defected to
the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, a senior CPP lawmaker says.
Cheam Yeap, a member of the CPP Politburo, said the defections included more than 1,000 in Peam Ro and Peam Chor districts.
Speaking earlier this week, he said the CPP followed the wishes of residents rather than simply flattering them.
Yim Sovan, spokesman for the Sam Rainsy Party, and Kem Sokha, president of the Human Rights Party, could not be reached for comment.
