PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) - National staff at the UN-backed Khmer
Rouge tribunal warned Tuesday that they would resign if there were no
wages provided, a spokesman said.
"National staff sent a letter to the administration department over the late salary provision for December," said Neth Pheaktra, spokesman for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).
The spokesman said late salaries for national staff "really affected their livelihoods and will to hold on to their duties at the tribunal."
He said all national staff were working without contracts because the administration department has not yet received funding pledges from donors.
The Cambodian side of the hybrid court needs $9.5 million to operate in 2013. The national side has received a $1.8 million pledge from the Cambodian government and $700,000 from Germany.
Wages for 300 Cambodian employees including drivers, prosecutors and judges depend on donors.

The court, which has spent more than $160 million since its creation, has achieved one conviction, sentencing a former S21 prison chief Kang Gech Eav to life in prison for overseeing the deaths of some 15,000 people.
The Japanese government announced last week $2.5 million for the international side of the tribunal.

Wish that in this modern day we still can use salt as currency
and pay employee wage with it just like people did in ancient
time !!! Wasn't that the word salary came from word salt ?!
I'm kind of old now to remember stuffs correctly !!!
Anyway,ECCC staffs might get more helps from Japan this
year, just keep buying Toyota OK !
Another wish is that, Mr. Ah leukeu ? !!! (who is he ?! and why
called him like that?!), lives long enough to see the end
episode of this tribunal.
