Horror as singer dons Indian dress at Khmer wedding [Cambodia is supposed to be a free country, people can do whatever they want and government should not interfere with people's freedom of expression and Khat Sokhim had exercised that right!]

PHNOM PENH, 22 December 2012 (The Cambodia Herald) - Singer Khat Sokim has apologized for wearing an Indian outfit to her wedding reception earlier this month.

"I wore such clothes hoping they'd be a surprise," the Hong Meas Production singer said. "I'm sorry if I disappointed you all."

Sources said Khat Sokim and bridegroom In Sophano nevertheless wore traditional Khmer clothes in  ceremonies leading up to the reception on December 12.

Som Sokun, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, accused the singer of trying to promote her wedding business, known as Khat Sokim Wedding Embodiment.

"To make a surprise during the wedding in the hope of promoting her business breaks with Khmer tradition," he was quoted as telling Angkor Thom magazine.

"Entertainers are important role models for others so they have to be careful," he said. "I hope to see her and talk about the rules of wedding embodiment."

Khat Sokim she would be "happy to meet and talk" with the government official. "I have my own evidence to show that I respect Khmer culture," she added.

"I've arranged thousands of weddings so I'm very clear about that." Moreover, she continued, "I wore Khmer clothes at many of the ceremonies and the Indian clothes at the reception only.

"What about those who wear long white dresses like Europeans? Will they be banned from doing that?"

Khat Sokhim, you have the right to wear whatever your desire to wear the fukkking govt shouldn't be interference of private business, what about sexy westerner clothes that people wear in the wedding why don't govt step in and enforce their dress codes? Indian cloth is not reveal or show cleavage like westerner cloth.Khat Sokhim i say you need to fight back for your right and let these communist Cpp know that its freedom of expression as long as you're not walking naked you're fine, but if you choose to walk naked that fine with me because you're beautiful and fun to watch....Cpp stay out of people business go to enforce the law to protect the border from Yuon invaders in the EASTER ZONE,what's Khat Sokhim wear is not priority, the border protection from Yuon invaders is more priority that Indian clothes.

Yobal Khmer,

You are right. Cambodia is a free country and people have every right to wear whatever they want. This is called freedom of expression or freedom of choice.

Many people, especially, famous people wore Western dress at their wedding, so why didn't the government condemn them. What is the difference between Indian and Western dress? After all, Cambodian culture, language and costume were copied from India and modified.

If Khat Sokhim was trying to promote her business that's her private right as long as it did not violate the law of the land. Wearing costumes of another country, especially Indian costumes, is not a crime, the same as people wearing Western clothes at their weddings.

There is nothing wrong to wear western rather than Indian cloths, western donate more money to help poor country like Cambidia, western clothes was/is not belong to western it is belong to the world because of their constant redesign and model, western used all concept around the world and used desinger from all over the world,

Indian clothes never ever change from century to century, they strickly to Indian identity only. That is the differnce bewteen Indian and western.

Like suit or taxido now belong to the world, Japenses, Chinese, Cambodia and other country wear it.

The point is Cat Sokim is/was known to all Khmer if she does not to bother to promote Khmer tradition that being invade by foreign she should destroy it.

Oh well, what can I say besides the fact that she's cute !!!

Som Sokun would probably have suffered a major hearth attack
already had Sokim worn a big nostril ring and painted a third
red or pink eye on her forehead !!!

Hello Mr. Som Sokhun ,
I would like to suggest you to slap on the faces of all Khmer ladies who walk around
at Cambodian SVAY RIENG markets wearing YUON ' style pajamas and with Duon ( conical hat ) on their heads .

No evident to suggest that "Cambodian culture, language and costume were copied from India and modified". Cambodian culture, language, art, dance and costume are completely different. We Khmer dance slowly than Indian, do not eat Curry daily, Speak slow and monotone.

Some scholors has suggested that Indian might has copy Cambodian tradition and claim as her own.

Khat Sokhim didn't destroy anything she just promote her business,Gov't Cpp were allowed all Yuon yiekcong to wear ugly pajamas or Duon(hat) all over srok Khmer now,why don't Cpp protect their cloth tradition and enforce Yuon not to wear ugly pajamas or Duon on khmer's street? So dont worry about Khat Sokhim self serving agenda,Cpp govt should worry about Yuon floated houses all over Tunle sap near phenom Kongrey Kompong Chhnang province, that ostensibly cultural invaders or assimilation of Yuon invaders in clothes nor way of lives nor culture. We all decendant of Indians anyway ,why worry about the clothes that Khat Sokhim self serving business agendas?Sokhim Indian cloth is not a threat to Khmer culture, but Yuon invaders are the threat to our culture and way of lives in a major way...If we don't pay attention to these Yuon invaders our culture and way of lives will be doom like Champa. To cutie Khat Sokhim you're fine and much smarter than those critics that criticize your freedom of expression, wear whatever you want you don't break any law of Cambodia. You're very fun to watch for an entertainer you're one of threat best,if you choose to wear nothing it is your choice Cpp govt should be worry about country agendas border integrity or Yuon illegal immigration that polluted our drinking water not private nor personal agendas of self serving business agendas of Khat Sokhim.
