Sam Rainsy and Hun Sen chatted in front of the National assembly in 2006.
PHNOM PENH, 26 October 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Prime Minister Hun Sen
was quoted as saying Friday that he would not pave the way for exiled
opposition party leader Sam Rainsy to return to Cambodia as requested.
The announcement was made at a closed-door meeting with senior government officials.
Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said Hun Sen asked the meeting how he could grant such a request since Sam Rainsy accuses him of being a puppet and refuses to speak with him.
He added that Sam Rainsy had written separate letters to King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Sen asking to be allowed to return to pay respects to the late King Father.
Sam Rainsy has been sentenced to 12 years in jail for uprooting border posts and forgery. He is believed to be living in France.
