PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - The National Salvation
Party, a new opposition party being formed by the Sam Rainsy and Human
Rights parties, says it is collecting 4,000 thumbprints to register with
the Ministry of Interior.
Pol Horn, deputy chairman of a temporary party committee, said he had received a letter from Interior Minister Sar Kheng allowing the party to register.
He said the 4,000 thumbprints would be signed by either Sam Rainsy, in his capacity as the new party's chairman, or himself on behalf of the exiled opposition leader, who is believed to be in France.
Pol Horn said Sam Rainsy would automatically lose his chairmanship of the Sam Rainsy Party as a person cannot head two parties at the same time.
