PHNOM PENH, 3 September 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Fifty percent of rural residents are
seeking jobs in Phnom Penh, according to a report by the Ministry of
Planning and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The report, based on 375 villages in rural areas, found that the net migration rate was four percent and that migrants were generally between 15 and 29 years old. The main reason for migrating was to find jobs to support families.
The report also found that 40 percent of Phnom Penh residents had lived in Phnom Penh for more than five years.
Planning Minister Chhay Thorn said the study would be used in preparing government policies, planning and investment.
