PHNOM PENH, 14 September 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - More than 500 conservationists began a
four-day rally Friday to protect Prey Long forest in northern Cambodia,
the last lowland forest in Southeast Asia, organizers said.
A
statement said more than 300 motorcycles were expected to converge on
Tuck Meas and Dombun Brarm, along the border of Preah Vihear and Stung
Treng, and O’Krak and Kbal Tek Thlar, between Kratie and Kampong Thom.
The statement said protestors would collect evidence of illegal logging for authorities to take action.
Deforestation and logging have been growing rapidly in Prey Long forest, and land concessions are threatening local people, the organizers said.
