Bridge – Vietnam and Cambodia have maintained a time-honoured friendly
and neighbourly relationship which has grown steadily in all fields,
said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a reception for the visiting
Secretary of State of the Cambodian Defence Ministry General Neang Phat
in Hanoi on August 22.
PM
Dung said that General Neang Phat’s visit will make a practical
contribution to boosting comprehensive cooperation between the two
armies as well as the two nations.
The Prime Minister also
expressed his hope that the two sides will cooperate more closely in
personnel training, joint sea patrols and naval activities, as well as
coordinate at regional forums, especially the ASEAN Defence Ministers’
Meeting Plus (ADMM+), for peace, stability, cooperation and development
in the region.
He said he hopes the Cambodian Government
and army will continue helping Vietnam return the remains of Vietnamese
volunteer soldiers found in Cambodia.
General Neang Phat
said his visit to Vietnam aims to further strengthen ties between the
two armies, adding that he wants them to always cooperate and support
each other, especially in military personnel training and army
construction and development.
He affirmed that he will do
his utmost to educate Cambodian military officers about the tradition,
solidarity and friendship between Vietnamese and Cambodian armies.
Vietnam, Cambodia strengthen defence ties
A
high-ranking Cambodia delegation led by General Neang Phat, Secretary
of State for the Cambodian Defence Ministry, is on a five-day visit to
Vietnam from August 21 to boost defence cooperation with the Vietnamese
side.
After an official welcome ceremony in Hanoi on August 22, the Cambodian delegation held talks with Sen. Lieut. Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich, Director of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army.
At the talks, the two sides assessed the results of the implementation of their cooperation plans in 2011 and the first six months of 2012 and discussed plans for their future cooperation.
They agreed that bilateral defence cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has seen good results, especially in the exchange of delegations, political and ideological work, and human resource training.
Over the past time, the two armies have effectively coordinated in various fields, said Neang Phat.
Sharing views with the Cambodian guest, Lich affirmed that recent bilateral defence cooperation results were clear evidence of the friendship and solidarity between the two armies.
He suggested that the two sides coordinate in organising activities to raise people’s awareness of the importance of strengthening the ties between the two countries in general and between the two armies in particular.
The two sides should continue to step up cooperation in protecting security and order in border areas in order to build a Vietnam-Cambodia border line of peace, friendship, cooperation and development, he said.
They also agreed to continue strengthening cooperation in human resource development, the exchange of delegations and the sharing of experience in political and ideological work.
On the same day, the Cambodian delegation paid a courtesy visit to Minister of National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh.
