The
United States Navy Military Sealift Command's hospital ship USNS Mercy
(T-AH 19) docked at Cambodia's Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on Sunday
in order to provide free medical, dental, veterinary, and engineering
assistance to communities.
The ship was greeted by Admiral Tea
Vinh, Commander of Cambodian Navy, and Jeff Daigle, US Embassy Charg
d'Affaires, as well as other Cambodian senior naval officials.
Speaking
at the event, Tea Vinh said that the hospital ship's visit will help
strengthen bilateral ties between Cambodia's Navy and the US Navy.
"Moreover, the ship's visit will benefit Cambodian people as its staff will provide free-of-charge medical treatment," he said.
According
to a press release from the US Embassy here, the ship has more than
1,200 multi-national military service members and civilians onboard.
The
visit is made under the Pacific Partnership Program 2012. Pacific
Partnership is US Pacific Fleet's largest annual humanitarian and civic
action mission in the Asia-Pacific region that involves coordination
amongst host and partner nations, non- government organizations (NGOs),
and other international agencies to ensure a synchronized ability to
respond to natural disasters, said the press release.
It will
stay at the port until August 11. During that period, the Mercy staff
will provide free medical services including optometry, dental,
pediatrics, and general medicine to locals, it said.
Cambodia first hosted Pacific Partnership in 2010 when over 14, 000 people received free medical services.

Come on man, American are up to no good with regard to South China Sea problems but I CAN'T EXCEPT THIS THEORIES. American medical staffs are kind and caring peoples. American are very independent mind peoples and these doctors and nurses will not tolerate any ideas of using their professionalism of been a medical ship for war ideas. I lived in America for over 32 years and ONE THING THAT I HAD LEARNED IS THAT AMERICAN MEN AND WOMEN ARE VERY INDEPENDENT PEOPLES EVEN IF THEY WERE SERVING THEIR MILITARY. So please DON'T say such things especially they are helping our poor and helpless Khmer peoples.
It's true that America is concerned about the rise of China in the South China as it had influenced many small countries in the region like Cambodia, Laos and Burma. But I'm sure this medical mission is not about spying on China, it is rather more about winning the hearts and minds of the Cambodian population as well as the hearts and minds of the Cambodian navy and military because America can't win Hun Sen's heart and mind because his heart and mind had already been sold to China.
Americans are independent? How many are on welfare and food stamps right now? Millions are depending on their governments to feed them. Would you be worry that Americans will take your land? Would you be worry that China, Vietnam and Thailand will do anything in their power to control over cambodia? Khmer need to have good friends like US. You should appreciate them that they go there to help us, not to steal from us like those 3 countries.
I agreed with you fellow @8:43Am.America is a good guy, not only that,America she is kind to all people whether the people that come to her and hateful to her,she welcome them with open arms.Thatwise,911 had happened because of her generosity.America took almost millions khmers under her wings when khmers people has no place to go,not just khmers,people all over the world.
For those who said the America spy on Kambuja is wrong,she was in khmers land not to steal or spy anything but,to help the needy khmers,if she needs to spy she does not use big ship like that she will uses spy plans that flew up way up that Cambodian's gun can't shoot her down.
Please don't think that American come to spy on Kambuja.She come to observes what China do in the [SCS] be friend with America is better that be friend with China,just look at Thailand? Don't polpot was puppet to China back in the day? Look what was happening in polpot era? Yuon is not our friend.Stay the hell away from Yuon.America never steal anything from Khmer but,Yuon and chin did many time over n' over....
