Phnom Penh – At 9AM on 15 July 2012, cops from the ministry of Interior (MoI) arrested Mam Sonando, the owner of the Beehive radio station and president of the Democrat Association, at his office. He is accused of involvement in 4 serious anti-government charges, in particular for his involvement in the case of Bun Ratha, a man accused by Hun Sen’s regime of land secession in Kampong Damrey commune, Chhlong district, Kratie province.
Khieu Sopheak, the MoI mouthpiece, confirmed to DAP-news over the phone about Mam Sonando’s arrest and his arrest was ordered by the Kratie provincial court on 02 July 2012.
The four charges leveled against Mam Sonando are:
1. Fomenting ideas against public government officials,
2. Fomenting illegal insurrection when the authority was undertaking public work,
3. Inciting people to hold illegal arms, and
4. Opposing the legal authority as stipulated in a number of sections of the criminal law.
According to Khieu Sopheak, after Mam Sonando was arrested, the cops are preparing his paperwork to send it to the court.
Mam Sonando was arrested after he arrived home from a trip overseas on 12 July 2012. At his arrival, Mam Sonando told reporters that he was not afraid of being arrested.
Recently, Hun Xen ordered the arrest of Bun Ratha [for his opposition against forced eviction in Kratie] and he also ordered the arrest of the president of the Democrat Association without mentioning Mam Sonando’s name specifically.

4 charges leveled against Mam Sonando after his arrest
Phnom Penh – Cops dressed in civilian
and in uniform clothes came to the house of Mam Sonando, which also
serves as the office of the Beehive radio station located in Thnot Chrum
village, Boeung Tompun commune, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh, to
arrest him. Mam Sonando is also the president of the Democrat
Association and owner of the Beehive 105 FM radio station. According to
Mrs. Din Phanara, Mam Sonando’s wife, the arrest was made at 9AM on
Sunday 15 July 2012.
Din Phanara indicated that when
the cops came to arrest Mam Sonando at home, they read to him the court
order issued by the Phnom Penh municipal court which accused Mam Sonando
of involvement with land dispute in Kratie province.
As of this morning, the cops took Mam Sonando from his home to the Phnom Penh police headquarters for questioning.
Mam Sonando arrived in Phnom
Penh on 10 PM on 12 July 2012, following his visit in the US. He was not
arrested at his arrival at the Phnom Penh airport where he was greeted
by family members and members of the Democrat Association. At that time,
civil society organizations and reporters were closely observing his
arrival in Phnom Penh.
In his interview with reporters,
Mam Sonando said that he was not afraid of being arrested by the cops
because he is not involved with any case where he would incite people to
grab land, accusations that were leveled against villagers in Kampong
Damrey commune, Chhlong district, Kratie province.
In this land dispute case, Hun
Xen announced that legal actions will be taken against the president of
the Democrat Association and he claimed that the latter incited people
to grab land in anarchy. Because of that, the government had to send
cops and soldiers to raid the villagers and this action led to the
killing a young teenager on 16 May 2012. Several villagers were also
arrested during the raid while a large number of them fled.
Five members of the Democrat
Association branch, including Bun Ratha, were pursued by the cops
following a court order. The five were accused of being leaders in the
land dispute and they incited people to grab land and form a secession
zone in Proma village, Kampong Damrey commune, Chhlong district, Kratie
province.
Up to now, 4 of the accused came out to confess and the cops used them as witnesses to level charge against Mam Sonando, the president of the Democrat Association.
Mam Sonando, an activist critical of the border issues, was arrested and
sent to jail by Hun Sen’s regime on 2004. Prior to his arrest, Mam
Sonando left Cambodia to visit France and the US since 12 March 2012.

នៅពេលមកដល់ព្រលានយន្តហោះអន្តរជាតិភ្នំពេញ លោក ម៉ម សូណង់ដូ ត្រូវបានទទួលស្វាគមន៍ដោយក្រុមគ្រួសារ និងសមាជិកសមាគមអ្នកប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ ក្រោមការឃ្លាំមើលពីសកម្មជនសង្គមស៊ីវិល និងក្រុមអ្នកកាសែត។

សាខាសមាគមអ្នកប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ ៥ នាក់ ដែលមានទាំងឈ្មោះ ប៊ុនរដ្ឋា ត្រូវបានសមត្ថកិច្ចប៉ូលិសតាមចាប់ខ្លួន តាមដីការបស់តុលាការ ក្នុងរឿងជម្លោះដី ដែលសមត្ថកិច្ចចោទប្រកាន់ថា អ្នកទាំងនោះ ជាមេក្លោងក្នុងការបំផុសឲ្យមហាជនចាប់ដី និងបង្កើតជាតំបន់អបគមន៍ នៅភូមិប្រម៉ា ឃុំកំពង់ដំរី ស្រុកឆ្លូង ខេត្តក្រចេះ។
មកដល់ពេលនេះ មានជនជាប់ចោទ ៤ នាក់ បានចេញមកសារភាព ហើយសមត្ថកិច្ច បានបង្វែរអ្នកទាំងនោះ ជាសាក្សី ដើម្បីដាក់បន្ទុក ប្រឆាំងនឹងប្រធានសមាគមអ្នកប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ លោក ម៉ម សូណង់ដូ។

He knew that he would end up in prison and die,but that won't deter his faith.He knows that one day the light will shine and the darkness will be disappeared and his people history will be with his side.
Mam Sonando is sleeping in prison,but his conscience is free,where as Hun and his cronies are the ones who are living in fear,with thousand of bodyguards, and as prisoners for the rest of their lives.
Like a shepherd,in war,Mam Sonando is the first man in the front line of battle field and as in peace he is the first man a true defender of justice. He is simply a man of his people and his motherland.A golden path,a meaningful journey and a sacred foot step he has just begun,and millions will follow him.
A regime that built on fear is like a house that is built on sand.
The wheel of freedom and democracy is an unstoppable force.

I agreed with you [True Khmer] 1000% on the subject that you wrote about the honorable Sir Mam Sonondo.It was very dark day in khmers history in all generation to be written into history book once again, after Polpot killingfield this Cpp Huncent K.R left over won't learn anything from its own past history.
When will Cpp stop accuses its citizens of wrong doing without evidences using ironfist of jungle's laws to impose injustice upon its citizens without consciences.Sir;Mam Sonondo was very brave he is a hero among many heroes that gone before him.I admired him for his courages and bravest dared to speaks against injustice that Cpp Huncent imposes against khmers innocent.I wish that justice will prevail in his favor,but under Cpp jungle's upside down court pp regime a chance for him is very slim,the odd are stackin up against him in this upside down regime.
Mr;Mam Sonondo our admiration to fight against injustice and millions young khmers will be brave like him and follows his footstep to fight against injustice for the next generation.The journey is just beginning,the wills of the free people will not quit.

Hun Sen's kangaroo court can convict and try Mam Sonando and render him injustice, but the bravery of Mam Sonando will live forever in the hearts and minds of his supporters and those who share his ideals. A brave man indeed. He earned my respect!
Mam Sonando is admirable for his courage to return home. He knows he will be arrested. They will make sure he will suffer and die slowly. One must be a price to follow his ideal. Hope his will will not break down, that would be more painful.
