Bus services between Cambodia, Thailand off to slow start

BANTEAY MEANCHEY, 26 July 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – The international bus services between Cambodia and Thailand launched last month are getting off to a slow start, a senior official said.

Vasim Sorya, director general of the General Administration Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said two Cambodian buses twice entered Thailand last week whereas no Thai vehicles entered Cambodia. The daily quota is 30 buses and 10 trucks.

"Even though the governments launched the service, the private sector is the executor," said Soun Vanhong, deputy chief of the provincial transport department.

Chong Lim, head of the Banteay Meanchey Tourism Department, said he had not seen any buses entering Thailand from Siem Reap province or Phnom Penh.
