ASEAN foreign ministers approve peace institute

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations approved Monday the establishment of a regional peace and reconciliation institute, a senior official said.

"ASEAN foreign ministers have approved some key documents in establishing... (an) ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation," said Kao Kim Hourn, secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Speaking to reporters at the annual meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers, he said ministers discussed relations with countries outside the region and ASEAN's core functions

Other issues included joint stands on terrorism, climate change and transborder crime as well as strengthening ASEAN's cooperation with six key partners, he said.
