Prime Minister Hun Sen’s June order that land be cut from economic
land concessions and returned to displaced villagers – a move that has
alternately inspired gratitude and scepticism – now has a high-profile
public face: one of his sons.
Hun Manith, deputy chief of Hun
Sen’s cabinet and his third-oldest child, was appointed deputy
secretary-general of the National General Secretariat for Land Disputes,
according to an entry in the Royal Book released on June 15.
The
appointment makes Manith second-in-command of the agency, which was
tasked by the premier with measuring and granting land to people
displaced by land disputes.
Sam Rainsy Party spokesman Yim
Sovann yesterday expressed hope that Manith would help displaced
villagers, but added that a lot of young Cambodians had the experience
and ability to hold such positions, and lamented the fact that such
opportunities in Cambodia were in the hands of one individual.
“I
would like to wish that those obtaining new positions will serve the
nation and find justice for citizens suffering from defending their
little land,” he said.
Manith’s appointment comes on the heels
of a handful of recently signed economic land concessions that led some
to question the sincerity of Hun Sen’s moratorium on the granting of
ELCs.
Am Sam Ath, a senior investigator with Licadho, expressed measured support for Hun Manith’s appointment.
“We
hope the deputy secretary-general of the National General Secretariat
for Land Disputes is effective in resolving land issues, and is what the
citizens need,” he said.
Chan Soveth, senior investigator for
the rights group Adhoc, expressed concern over the military-style
uniforms of the youths charged with assisting in the measurement of
villagers’ land, which he said might frighten some.
But he
approved of Hun Sen telling volunteers not to ask the people which party
they voted for, and wished Hun Manith well in his new role.
Hun Manith declined to comment on his new title.

New generation of Cambodian are less greedy than the old one.Also, know right from wrong unlike the K.R left over they don't care about no one.They were/are killing machines.
It's a family business. Hun Sen thinks Cambodia is his property, so he try to keep all powers in the hands of his family. This appointment will not come to fruition because Hun Sen is the one who ordered the evictions and who granted the land concessions which often violated people's land. How can the son has the power to prosecute his father?
Wait and see what is going on in this family's affai!! Its good sign that the son can do this to his people,or just a tricks show before an election 2013 to make Cpp looking good and get all the votes from the people.If this ROBBERS HOOD turns to ROBIN HOOD is a good sign indeed.
But you can't trust this ROBBERS HOOD families of CAMBODIAN HUNZEN.....

If someone educated like PhD Hun Manith does not disguish between right or wrong and fairness for his country-men,women and children,i don't know what to say any more...
Doctor Hun Manith,is a hope for those poor people in Kampuchea today.Please do good deed for your country, you have to talk to your father to look far beyond the tip of his noses.
Prosperity,well being,happiness of your families were depending on these poor Cambodian people,if your taking care of them,well being of a whole country will be prosperous,if you neglect them [Cambodian ]steal from them, all HELL breaks loses,uprising will destroyed your families and your country as well.Srok Khmer is depend on you,she [Kampuchea] is in your hands, please be fair and promote social justice for all human regardless of class.

2:42 AM, Hun Maith did not earn a Ph.D, it is his older brother, Hun Manet who earned a Ph.D from Bristol University in England.
