BANTEAY MEANCHEY, 9 June 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – The Cambodian
Mine Action Centre has unearthed 95 grenades and a 60mm mortar in
Banteay Meanchey province after a farmer plowing a field reported the
discovery, police said Saturday.
The national police website said the grenades and mortar were found in a cassava field 150 meters from Khleng Por Tbong village in Slor Kram commune in Svay Chek district.
The commune police chief said Long Chamnan, 35, was plowing the field with a tractor when he saw five grenades. Police contacted CMAC which suspected other ordnance in the area.
Experts said the grenades were made in Russia and would be destroyed since they could still be used.
