Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has told
Thailand's legal team to prepare to oppose Cambodia's request that the
International Court of Justice interpret its 1962 Preah Vihear temple
verdict.
The prime minister yesterday met military leaders, Foreign Ministry
officials and the Thai legal team including Thai ambassador to the Hague
Virachai Plasai and three foreign lawyers from France, Canada and
Australia, her deputy Gen Yutthasak Sasiprapa, who was present at the
meeting, said.
It was the first time the three foreign lawyers and Ms Yingluck had met.
The meeting was called ahead of the June 21 deadline by which
Thailand has to submit its written observations to counter Cambodia's
petition submitted on April 28 last year.
Cambodia wants the ICJ to interpret its 1962 verdict on whether to
include the 4.6 sq km disputed area near the Preah Vihear temple in
Cambodian territory or not.
The ICJ is expected to rule on Cambodia's petition next year.
Shortly after meeting the prime minister, Mr Virachai, who leads
Thailand's legal team, said the premier told the foreign lawyers about
what the government needs from them.
They also discussed the ICJ's verdict of provisional measures issued in July last year.
The ICJ ruled the two countries must withdraw their troops from a
17.3 sq km demilitarised zone, of which 8.5 sq km is in Thailand. It
covers Preah Vihear temple and its 4.6 sq km disputed area.
The ICJ also asked Indonesian observers to monitor the withdrawal
process while the ICJ was to consider an interpretation of its 1962
verdict awarding sovereignty of Preah Vihear temple to Cambodia next
year.
Mr Virachai also said a change of judges at the ICJ in February was unlikely to affect the ICJ's deliberations.
Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha said he had briefed prime minister
Yingluck about the border situation between the two countries after the
ICJ issued its verdict.
"I told them the two countries are now at peace. Thailand keeps its
sovereignty while Cambodia is doing the same on in its side," Gen
Prayuth said.
However, a border source said Cambodia is building another road in
the 4.6 sq km disputed area in addition to the the existing construction
of Ban Ko Mui Road in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province.
Mr Virachai said if the road goes ahead, Thailand will report it to the ICJ.
He said the military is keeping a close watch on the matter.
Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said Thailand might
consider allowing Indonesian observers to witness troop withdrawals from
the demilitarised zone as suggested by the ICJ.
The withdrawals will be made simultaneously.

Bangkok Post! I think, we know very well of Bangkok Post when each time talks about Cambodia and Thailand.
Thai is a dangerous invade include (Vietnam) and behave as new colonialist of the part of Southeast Asia.
The big part of today Thailand belongs to the Khmer & Moon people and not the Thai.
One day the young generation of these people will sure stand up again the Thai oppression like in the former Yugoslavia or other part of the world.
Under international laws Cambodia will win for sure, but the way Hun Sen is preparing for this case I'm afraid Cambodia could lose to Thailand.
Remembered not just Preah vihear alone that Thailand claims as their....Battambang province/Siem Reap province, Angkor Wat Temple too!
Its sound like bloodshed is un avoidable if [ICJ
reward siamee khmers Phreah Vihea and land
around that area..
The war is coming soon, please check the detail listing at the theatre near you.
Khmer King AngChan was right naming a province in Cambodia Siem Reap where Khmer crushed Siamese thieves like bugs under Khmer feet due to their stubborn thief never give up of stealing Khmer land and Khmer temples.
The war with Cambodia, of course Thai with their modern military equipments sure able to invade Cambodia in a very short period.
But at the end Cambodia will win this battlefield and will give Cambodia a great opportunity to reunite all our people Khmer & Moon together. Please remember, this is the 21 century and not the old time of colonialism, Thai will not have support from the world community.
Until today Thai did not have much courage. Thai only provoked us Khmer almost every days with a very low guerilla tactics, by killing only the poor innocent Khmer people. In case Thai felt well with their arrogant behavior, Thai should declare a real war with Cambodia.
yingluck: one had huging hun sen another stepping hun sen. This is Thia!!
Here are the military comparisons between Cambodia and Siam that I observed:
1. They had some good J-39 Gripens, F-16 A, ok F-5 , ok Alpha Jets, average Albotross jets, a lot of utilities helicopters, some Cobra attack helicopters.
2. The had 100% advantage on us in the sea, we had nothing comparable excepts some fast attack boats.
3. They had ground forces outnumbers us, but most Khmers soldiers way more experienced and battle harden than them, so one Khmer soldiers can fight 3 Siam.
4. They had less capable MBT tanks, but more. They had similar amount APCs.
5. They had better French made artillery systems. We had older but capable artilleries, BM-21.
6. We had similar small arms weapons.
7. We perfect small pit battles and they only had in training.
8. We better Guirella tactics and the can't even counter small Muslims in their southern borders.
We will bleeds them more than Viets and kick them back to Yunan, China. I hope no war and ICJ grand us justices.
I'll joint the fight to kick all invaders out of my homeland, the [icj ] must recognize that khmers
land is belong to khmers, some siamee's land
was belong to khmers, the thieves(siamee) stole from khmers.
Khmers ancestors beated them [Siamee] ack then,we will beat them again today, regardless of what kinds of weapons siamee has,for two hundred of years Ah,Siam never fight like a man
they only sneak attack on khmers unarm that
crossing the border looking for work.
Y.K.pro
