PHNOM PENH, May 17, 2012 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia will host ASEAN Defense
Ministers' Meeting later this month to discuss how to enhance unity,
harmony and security in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Cambodia's Defense Ministry said in a statement Thursday the Sixth ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting will be held on 29 May at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
The theme of the meeting is "enhancing ASEAN unity for a harmonized and secure community," the statement said.
The Ministry of the National Defense attempts to achieve eight points, specifically on how to continue to implement the original philosophy of establishing the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting ( ADMM) with the objective to realize the ASEAN Political Security Community.
The meeting will be chaired by General Tea Banh, Minister of National Defence of Cambodia.
The ADMM, held for the first time in 2006 in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia, is the highest defence mechanism within ASEAN.
The annual ADMM allows the ASEAN defence ministers to discuss and exchange views on current defence and security issues and challenges faced in the region.
The ADMM aims to promote mutual trust and confidence through greater understanding of defence and security challenges as well as enhancement of transparency and openness.
