Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has been criticised for being overly generous to red-shirt supporters of former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who is in Cambodia this weekend.
Many Cambodians were upset that their PM allowed red shirts from Thailand to visit Angkor Wat without having to pay the US$20 (S$25) entrance fee. The move could cause Cambodia to lose about Bt30 million ($1 million) in revenue, a source said yesterday.
Hun Sen also ordered more than 10 VIP buses to pick up red shirts arriving in Cambodia from the Thai border town of Aranyaprathet.
Sa Kaew Immigration deputy superintendent Pol Lt-General Ben-chapol Rodsawat said some 164 buses, vans, pick-ups and cars carried 7,432 red shirts to Cambodia.
The arrival of the red shirts caused traffic chaos and criticism among many Cambodians in the border town of Poi Pet, which is opposite Thailand's Sa Kaew.
Tong Yii, 46, a Cambodian businessman, said the country normally charges foreign tourists $20 each for the entrance to Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, but Hun Sen had allowed the red shirts to enter free of charge from last Friday till today.
More than 50,000 Thais are expected to visit Angkor Wat over the three days, which meant Cambodia would lose about Bt30 million ($1 million) in entrance fees.
A Cambodian immigration official in the Cambodian city of Poipet, which is across the border from Sa Kaew, said yesterday that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had ordered immigration officials to provide special treatment to the red shirts from Thailand.
The red shirts went wild as soon as Thaksin arrived at the hotel City Angkor in Siem Reap, flocking to greet him, pulling his arms, embracing him and having their picture taken with him. Thaksin calmed them down, saying they have time as he would stay there several days.
Thaksin embraced Snoh Thienthong, a Pheu Thai Party leader, and his wife Uraiwan, plus Deputy Interior Minister Thanit Thiengthong.
Other political officer holders and former officials meeting with Thaksin included Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri and his deputy Surawit Khonsomboon, former House speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat, former transport minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal, former education minister Srimuang Charoensiri, and Bhanapot Damapong, brother of Pojaman Damapong, Thaksin's ex-wife.

F$&KING DOG ! WHILE OUR PEOPLE SUFFER, THAI RED SHIRT DOGS GET SPECIAL TREATMENT! OUTRAGEOUS! DCCP GUY
Majority of Red shirt are Khmer Surin and remember also Thai gave a lot of refugee camp.
This shows that Hun Sen is a real dictator. He will do anything without asking for permission from the parliament. Let foreigners to have a meeting on Cambodian soil, giving them free entrance to Angkor Wat, deploying 4500 security troops to protect them and spend millions to transport them to the meeting, needs approval from the parliament or the cabinet. These are Cambodia's money, not Hun Sen's money and he needs to ask permission from the parliament.
It is ridiculous that while our poor people are starving, Hun Sen spent millions facilitating the visit, the protection and the meeting of foreign fugitives on our soil. So, ridiculous!

I agree with you, but, UN rented the land and built the camp of refugees in Thailand, if Thailand refused, it meant chaos at that time. I’m not so sure about Cambodia spent money for such a kind of that operation, maybe a bit of it but not all, Thaksin could pay all the rests of it by secrecy.
Siem thieves, would have many allowed the Khmer refugee if without the UN intervention. Under the UN intervention, the Siem were allowed donated aids in returns. Prior to the UN intervention, the Siem would shoot anyone they see crossing the border (as they still do to this days), if anyone was caught they would be loaded onto the bus back to the Khmer land. Many Khmer refugees were killed by the starvation, the jungle heat, the mines, the Siem soldiers. Khmer Rogue or Angka Lur (mostly Khmer Vietminh).
I agree, PM Hun Sen once again showed the world how arrogant he is under his 32 years of ironfist. This uneducated PM Will do anything he wants, with or without the parliament. He is truly the stupidest PM in the world.
Anything for his business partner.
Yes, I've seen Thai black clad soldier(khmer surin-spoken khmer)who kicking and beaten khmers refugee until the guy passed out and thrown him in the back of pickup truck....Khmer refugees, especially young pretty girls have been raped by Thai black clad soldier. Forced brother and sister to sleep within each other, latter on they hung themselves to death when return to the camp.
K.I.D Camp, 1981
Thai soldier said if they don't he will rape the sister....They making fun at them while they sleep together....
k.i.d camp, 1981 section no.23
Stop spreading hatred between the two country
Q. How do you know if someone is a CPP Dog?
A. CPP dogs are often lacks/lost in words!
CPP dogs, needs more education!
PM Hun Sen welcome Thai citizen with VIP TREAT! While Thai black soldier welcome khmer unarmed citizen with their M-16 bullet instead..?? Thailand treated Khmer like animals...
Whats going on in here is unfair to all khmers, what is neutral respects be tween two countries!? Hun cent bowed down to Yuon and now to Siam without, treats these foe with absolutely/fully respectfully...whats about khmers that when works its srok, get treats with shooting or beaten up so severed in some case kills without justification [senseless acts] of hatred racism against khmers.
So cambodia security officer makes $200+/day? if they only makes $20/day, it doesn't cost $1 million dollars to deploye them.
Hun cent didn't cares, its not his money...its Cambodia's tax payer money,I was wondering if Huncent and his clans pay any taxes?...They stole millions from Cambodians tax payers to enrich himself [Hun's cronies] thugs that run country.
Hun hater.Surin...
4:45 AM, I think the Cambodian police doesn't earn that much, but the calculation of the cost should include logistics, police trucks, vans, police cars, transportation, protecting them for 4-5 days, fire engines, ambulance, planning. So, if it doesn't cost $1 million, then it must be close enough.
