PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Cambodia is supporting the expansion of
the United Nations Security Council to cope with political and economic
challenges, a government official said Saturday.
"The United Nations should be reformed as soon as possible, especially in the context of the post-crisis environment," said the official, who asked not to be named.
The official said the UN needed to "reflect the appropriate role and responsibility of Asia, both economically and politically, in ensuring regional and global stability."

To respond effectively to global issues, the official said Cambodia wants the council to be enlarged by increasing both the permanent and non-permanent membership.
During his current visit to Tokyo, Prime Minister Hun Sen will express Cambodia's full support for Japan's bid to become a permanent member of the council, the official said.
Cambodia is currently seeking to serve as a non-permanent member. The five permanent members of the council are Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
