PHNOM PEN, 24-Apr-2012 (Cambodia Herald) – Cambodia earned $1.9
billion last year from tourism, a sector that accounts for 350,000
direct jobs and 12 percent of gross domestic product, Tourism Minister
Thong Kong said Tuesday.
Speaking at a seminar in Phnom Penh, he
said the number of international visitors to Cambodia rose 26.8 percent
from a year earlier to 672,127 in the first two months of 2011.
Forecasts
showed Cambodia receiving about 3.2 million international visitors this
year, 4.5 million in 2015 and 8 million in 2020. By this stage, the
minister said, tourism is forecast to be generating annual revenues of
$5 billion and providing about 800,000 direct jobs.
In 2011, the
number of international visitors grew 14 percent from a year earlier to
2.88 million. During the same period, the number of domestic tourists
grew by about three percent to seven million, the minister said.

So, where have the billions of dollars gone to?
CPP is still so corrupted with no transparency.
Khmer employees did not have good paying plus less benefits under the corrupted CPP regime. Cambodia is better off without CPP regime or need to change for the good Democratic country - No more CPP regime.
I've always wondered where all that money has gone. Should have money spent on education, living standards and at least the military. The Bodyguard Unit looks great but what about the rest of the military??!!
And change our problem is CONVINCING our own people that they need that change, but majority are so conservative that it will be difficult. Hun Sen and the CPP always buy these people out with temporary funds, some are still stupid and think only about themselves, they don't think about the long term initiative only short term GREED.
There are thousands of foreigners in our country taking away most high end jobs, why does the government spends so much money on scholarships and encouraging cambodians to study in foreign countrys only to come back home with no jobs available. It's not whether if its a rich or a poor Cambodian graduate who have studied hard only to come home with this problem, ones with close links are fine but what about the others. For what purpose a engineer, IT graduate and Cambodian from poor to middle class working the floor of some foreign employer who mistreat them daily like a slave including in some cases death. While an incompetent government which is equally corrupt uncaring and unpatriotic does nothing but slaves and prostituting our people to foreigners.
What about Dignity, honor, and respect that all us Asians where born by why is it so, Cambodia lost so much. I'm sick and tired of outsiders/foreigners referring us as the AFRICANS of ASIA. Not only we get rid of the CPP, the foreign leeches who look down on us have a right to leave, why stay in Cambodia when they can't even assimilate themselves to our country. They should understand our circumstances before even set foot in Cambodia permanantly, its not some multicultural circus act.

If we think about those amount is a big one but mostly go to Sokimex Group of Sok Kong and some amount go to corrupted leaders, APSARA Authority and some amount to VN.
