PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Deputy Prime Minister Sok An has given a briefing to German Ambassador to ASEAN Nobert Bass about Cambodia's dispute with Thailand over the Preah Vihear Temple, sources said.
During a meeting Thursday, the sources said, Sok An explained the history of the dispute going back to 1904 as well as the verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which ruled in Cambodia's favor in 1962.
Recent tensions caused by Thailand's use of a unilateral map have eased under Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, he said, adding that bilateral relations had improved as the new government respected the ICJ decision ordering an unconditional withdrawal of all Thai forces from Cambodian territory in the area of the temple.
Press and Quick Reaction Unit spokesman Ek Tha told reporters after the meeting that Bass, who also serves as German ambassador to Indonesia, had asked Sok An about Cambodia-Thai bilateral cooperation as well as the dispute in the temple area.
