LOWELL -- The Lower Highlands Neighborhood Group will meet Wednesday night at 6:30 at the Boys and Girls Club at 657 Middlesex St.

Speakers include Sam Meas from the Cambodia Town Committee and city design planner Rachel Kisker to discuss the Cambodia Town initiative.

The committee met last fall to discuss ways to brand the Middlesex/Branch Street and Cupples Square areas to give the neighborhood business district the true feeling of being a destination location.

Ideas included better pedestrian access, banners, signage, crosswalks and benches, all designed with Cambodian influences.

In other business, the group will discuss the planning study under way to revitalize the Tanner Street corridor. When the Lowell Connector was built, it severed the connection between the Lower Highlands and the Sacred Heart neighborhood. The Tanner Street Citizens Advisory Committee is working to study the potential reuse of the industrial area, including reconnecting the neighborhoods through roadway improvements.

Maureen Martin of the South Bay Early Intervention Program will discuss her program, which provides services to families who have children from birth to age 3 to be able to support parents, connect families to community resources and assist children with their development.

The Lowell Police will also provide a neighborhood crime update.
