PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald)- Cambodians face many problems working in houses and companies in Malaysia and need legal protection, Cambodia's ambassador to the country says.
Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Tuesday, Norodom Arun Raksmey said she had met with the Ministry of Labour to prepare rules to protect maids from being abused and overworked.
A ministry spokesman said that during a meeting with the Cambodian diplomatic corps, Foreign Minister Hor Namhong told all ambassadors to help protect Cambodian workers forced to work without proper breaks.
Hor Namhong, who is also a deputy prime minister, recently asked Malaysia to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the issue. Without such an MOU, he said Cambodia could not send workers to Malaysia.
