Borey Keyla residents block Phanimex guards from dismantling houses

More than 100 Borei Keila villagers took to the streets on 17th November 2011 to demand that Phanimex Company owner Suy Sophan honour a contract signed in 2003 that promised housing for 1,776 families in exchange for land. Photo by Phnom Penh Post.

PHNOM PENH (CEN) - , Twenty hammer and ax-wielding security guards from Phanimex Co retreated amid protests Monday after trying to dismantle houses in Borey Keyla.

Phork Siphin, a local house owner, said the security guards targeted her house, saying that the owners had moved. She said the people who moved were just renting.

"I'm not going allow them to pull down my house without compensation," she said.

Suy Sophan, the Phanimix president, declined to comment.
