Both Thailand and Cambodia have recently been heavily affected by overwhelming floods. Fortunately the waters have now retreated in both countries and services are quickly returning to normal without disruption.

Since the floods in Cambodia have subsided, the number of tourists visiting has slowly increased, with great benefits to many local businesses. Popular attractions and many of the temples affected by the water have re-opened their doors and are welcoming visitors in. The temple of Bantaey Srei (pictured) was inaccessible for a number of days, as was Phnom Krom, famous for its sunsets, both of which are now open as usual.

In Cambodia, Exo have been able to help by delivering rice seeds to farmers in affected areas, particularly Kompon Thom. Thousands have been displaced by the recent floods and the 10 tons of rice seed delivered will benefit the 776 families who each received 13kg of seed.

Thailand is fast recovering after extensive flooding, with water draining away from most areas, though the effect on Thailand’s economy has been profound and tourism is essential to its recovery. Companies are resuming businesses as usual and attractions are welcoming visitors back. In Ayuthaya, one of the areas to suffer most, many attractions are now resuming normal service including; Ayutthaya Royal Elephant Kraal; Wat Phanan Choeng Ayutthaya; Wat Yai Chai Mongkol and the Temple of the Reclining Buddha; Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Phra Ram. Other attractions to open their doors again include a number of klong tours such as ‘Klong tour to Bangkoknoi’ run by Exotissimo and Tha Ka floating market and the railway market at Mae Klong.

Exotissimo have organized a ‘Big Cleaning Day’ in Ayuthaya at Wat Samviharn on December 11th. This is part of a Flood Recovery Plan Exo are working on and coordinating in part with the Tourism Authority Thailand. All cleaning equipment is being provided by Exo with many staff from their Bangkok based office taking part.

As clean up operations take place in both countries all infrastructure services are returning to normal with major networks and access routes operating without disruption. The overwhelming charisma and determination to overcome the floods by local people has been rousing for all those involved and now more than ever is a time to visit the charming and welcoming countries of Thailand and Cambodia.
